The people behind
the art.

My name is Sonia Sleeger and I’m a self-taught Multi Disciplinary Artist residing in Southern California. I love working with Acrylics, Alcohol Inks, Oils and Oil Pastels to create a unique style of Contemporary Art on canvas and paper. My creativity was nurtured through an 11 year journey as a caregiver for an aunt with Alzheimer’s. I needed to find a way to cope with this Labor of Love. I realized that ‘art as therapy’ was a way to express my emotions with colors and shapes while caring for my mental well being. The Elements of Design play an important role in my painting process. The subsequent inspiration and joy in painting that evolved reminded me of the incredible pleasure I experienced the very first moment I put paint on the canvas. Being able to create something from a single thought is a glorious thing! Abstraction, my favorite style of art creation, was fashioned into my natural painting expression. I enjoy the visual rewards derived from abstraction and I’m always excited with the results. I’m confident I’ll never stop learning. I enjoy expanding my creativity from workshops and classes and reading about innovative art techniques. In addition, viewing art in our local galleries and beyond, ultimately contributes to my success. This year I have been lucky enough to be juried into the National Orange Show and had my artwork exhibited at the Claremont Chamber of Commerce for two months. I participated in the Claremont Pride Festival 2026, and later this year, I will participate in the Claremont Village Venture for my fifth year in a row. My artwork has been sold at the Ahmad Shariff Gallery, Gallery Soho and the Chaffey Museum of Art. I am a current artist member at the Chaffey Museum of Art, Riverside Art Museum, Corona Art Association, Pomona Valley Art Association and the Claremont Chamber of Commerce. I have been married to my husband for twenty-eight years with two beautiful children. I was born and raised in Walnut and am currently living in Norco, California.
